Every year on 10th October, World Mental Health Day is celebrated. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the risk of mental health problems such as depressions and insecurities become higher. Working and learning from home could be a stressor to some people. According to several surveys, the highest depression rate is in young adulthood.

To celebrate World Mental Health Day, this year SCOPH CIMSA FK UIN created a community development called LESI (Let’s Erase Sadness and Insecurities). This community development is created to raise awareness about stress and how to cope with it.

The second intervention was held on 3rd December 2021 in the form of Focus Group Discussion (FGD). This Focus Group Discussion is in collaboration with KESSOS DEMA FK UIN SH. Before the Focus Group Discussion, the primary assessment was distributed to LESI’s target communities in the form of SRQ Test. The purpose of this test is to measure the decrease in SRQ score after the first intervention.

This Focus Group Discussion (FGD) was held using Zoom Meeting as an online platform. The event started at 04.00 p.m. led by Ceritain.id as peer counselors, this Focus Group Discussion involves LESI’s target communities by allowing them to share their experiences and feelings so that each of them could be more open and comfortable to share with others as a form of stress coping. They were divided into three small groups based on the main problems of each target community that had been identified by the counselors during the first intervention. Two groups focused on academic and friendship problems, while one group focused on family problems. Each of these groups was led by one peer counselor. The participants followed the discussion actively and shared many thoughts during the event. The Focus Group Discussion was closed around 06.00 p.m with a group photo. Besides that, we also conducted a mood tracker to monitor their moods each week starting from the first intervention to the second intervention.

This intervention has gotten positive feedback from the participants. We sincerely hope LESI could increase people’s knowledge and awareness about mental health. In addition, we also hope this community development could help the target lower their depression level.
