As medical students, it is a must to learn how to do anamnesis. It's because anamnesis is the first step to diagnose our patients correctly. There would be many patients, with different backgrounds, that we have to handle in the future. One of them might be our deaf and mute friends out there. These background differences shouldn’t get in the way of doing anamnesis correctly. Therefore on Friday, December 31, 2021, SCOME CIMSA FK UIN SH held the fourth intervention, last intervention for a sustainable project called BTS (Breaking the Silence) via Zoom Meeting to learn how to communicate with the use of sign language in our daily life. The tutors in this event are the preclinical students of FK UIN SH, who previously had been trained by PUSBISINDO.
Unlike the other intervention, this intervention was slightly different because our target community will do the final exam. The exam contained all the material that has been given in interventions one to four. The event opened with an opening session in the main room. After that, the participants directed to the breakout room. First, we notified the participants to do a pre-assessment test to measure the participant's basic knowledge about sign language. After that, the participants learned about about how to ask patients personal and social history, such as their hobbies, eating and exercise habits, household and environmental conditions, and many more. Next, there was a roleplay session, where participants interact with other participants using sign language that has been taught in the previous session. After that, we gave the participants a post-assessment test to measure how far they understand about the lessons that have been taught for this third intervention.
After the breakout session was over, we held the exam session. We directed the examiners and target community to the breakout room according to their respective group. In the breakout room, the examiners will test the target community with 35 questions. Finally, after the exam session was over, we directed the participants to the mainroom. Because this is the last intervention, before we close the event, we announce some of the best participants and best tutor. After that, we took photos as documentation.
Similar to the previous intervention, we still got positive feedback from the participants, we were having a very good time, and we enjoyed our time together. Seeing the enthusiasm of the participants made the event deserve to be held next time. We truly wish this event gave the participants and the tutor truly benefits and useful knowledge.
