According to South Tangerang City Bappeda, currently South Tangerang City is experiencing many floods. This flood event occurred in several districts with different causes of flooding, one of which was the overflow of drainage channels due to clogged channels. This problem is of course the result of the accumulation of garbage that disturbs or hinders the flow plus the lack of attention to drainage which is a supporting factor for the occurrence of drainage overflow.

According to the data from DKKP, the volume of waste produced by markets, industries and households in South Tangerang City is slightly high. Since the COVID-19 pandemic spread to Indonesia, the amount of waste generated from households has increased drastically, this is due to limited community activities due to working from home (WFH). According to data received from Waste Management, Toxic and Hazardous Materials (PSLB3), the amount of waste from offices has indeed decreased but there has been an increase in household waste, with 90% of incoming household waste being disposable plastic used food ordered online.

Because it is deemed necessary, we, SCORP CIMSA FK UIN SH made an activity named GO GREEN to reduce flood-affected areas in the South Tangerang area through counseling activities regarding the impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on waste in the surrounding environment, food waste, and making handicrafts from used goods.

On 13th Febuary 2021, SCORP CIMSA FK UIN SH has done the 1st intervention which is the begining of the Community Development GO GREEN. We provided education about the impact of the pandemic on the surrounding environment for 7 grade of Ash-Shiddiq Junior High School’s students via Zoom Call Meeting. There was also discussion about zero waste as well as food waste where Rd Sarah Rauzana Putri from Diet Kantong Plastik was the speaker. At the mid-activity, we did a game so that students didn’t feel bored. The participants were very enthusiastic about following the topic from the beginning to the end of the activity, it was seen from so many good questions asked by students.

There were also awards to the participant who won the game and asked the best question. We were really thankful for the participant and speaker anthusiasm for this first intervention. We hope that this enthusiasm can last long until the next intervention.
