1. Greetings, doc! It’s such a pleasure to be able to meet you. Could you tell us about yourself and a little bit about your recent activites?
So, this day I’ve just finished my internship program in Mimika, Papua. Now, I am preparing for my STR as a medical doctor and applying for my scholarship and my study abroad. I plan to continue my study in mastering Public Health in America. So, I hope it will be that easier.
2. I heard that, you just finished your internship in Papua. Could you share to us your experience when you were there?
For the experience that I got while in Papua it was very memorable and adorable. I decided to have my internship in Papua to look for a better experience because there were not many specialists there, so the opportunity to learn more about medicine was quite challenging. I saw that the society were also very different from the city communities in Java, they did not care much about their health. Their mindset are still underdeveloped, which is very suitable for my passion, especially in the field of public health, so that later I can understand on how to make policies for certain communities.
3. Wah, it’s such a great experience! Were there any obstacle that you faced? tell us a little bit more about it, doc!
The first obstacle that I faced was language differences between 7 local tribes. It was difficult to educate them. The second thing was the access to get a transportation there, even though it was available, the price was too expensive. In addition, the support system for health in my internship field has not been too supportive, which was contributed to people wellbeing and almost every week I took care of children with malnutrition.
4. value="4"Wah, it’s such an interesting experience, doc! Now, could you explain to us why did you decide to join CIMSA?
I found that CIMSA was the most exciting organization of all the organizations that existed at that time when I went through my pre-clinic and CIMSA was a place for me to be a welcome distraction for myself. As a result, after a long journey it turned out that CIMSA was not only exciting but also gave me many of the best experiences and lessons for the future.
5. Why did you decide to be a Local Coordinator of CIMSA UIN 2013-2014?
At that time, I decided to be a Local Coordinator of CIMSA UIN 2013-2014 because I had a lack of confidence to speak in public. But, I am a person who likes to be challenged. I thought that being a Local Coordinator was the best way to change my weaknesses into strengths. Other than that, I believe that I could lead my CIMSA friends. There are several obstacles that I faced, one was about on how to maintain a sense of togetherness and solidarity between the members or even officials and my method for resolving it was by approaching them one by one. In addition, the involvement of members from my year in projects was non-existent, as if swallowed by the earth. So, my solution for this was to remind and encourage LOs to invite members when there was a meeting or other thing so that a sense of family will be built between each other.
6. After being a Local Coordinator, why did you decide to be a President of CIMSA 2015-2015? What advantages did you get from being the President of CIMSA?
The first reason was at the time I thought that if I became a President of CIMSA, I would be a better person and the second I believed that I had the ability and opportunity to be able to lead other CIMSA locals.
7. Wow, how did you handle the communication between the locals, doc?
Communication between locals was pretty difficult because of the location distance with each other. Therefore, we had to do most of the communications online, which made it tough to increase bonding with other locals. The solution to this was visiting the locals that I can visit one by one.
8. What was the most memorable moment when you were in CIMSA, doc?
I thought that all of my moments in CIMSA were so memorable not only in local but also in national. However, the most memorable moment in CIMSA was in my last national and international meeting as a President of CIMSA because it was so hard to leave and release CIMSA which I had been a part of for almost 5 years.
9. Are there any organizations that you join now? Could you give a brief explanation about that?
Now, I am a part of Indonesian Young Health Professionals’ society (IYHPS), which is a forum for young health professionals from various health education backgrounds who are interested to contribute in improving the quality of the Indonesian health through health education programs. The second one is World Medical Association (WMA), which is an international independent confederation consisting of medical professional associations worldwide that are also independent. WMA also represent the voices of doctors from all over the world. So, through WMA I could share my thoughts when WMA wants to release policies about health.
10. Wah, all of your stories seems so exciting, doc! Before this interview ends, Do you have something to say for the member and newbies of CIMSA UIN?
Stay hungry stay foolish fellows. Never satisfied with your current condition. Keep exploring, a world is wider than your classroom.
Okay kak. Thank you for your time and we wish you have a great day!
