English is the most spoken language in the world. So many activities nowadays related to it because of the world globalisation. For example, some articles, journals, books, songs, as well as the education systems are using English for the most used language. Thus, we see the urgencies for Indonesian people to start to learn English, because of the development of the world globalisation that keep growing, we need to improve our English Ability.
TOEFL as known as Test of English as a Foreign Language is the most widely used English test that’s been used all over the world til’ now. It has recognised for all of the universities, also been used for applying for jobs and scholarships, either in Indonesia or in other countries in the world.
On Saturday, January 13th 2018, SCOPE CIMSA UIN just held a project named MiniTOEFL, cooperated with LIA Ciputat (An English Language Centre). This is a TOEFL mini test simulation for the medical, pharmacy, public health, and nursery students in Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences in Syarif Hidayatullah State University. And in this project, we’re not giving the students the real TOEFL certificate, but only a prediction score. We did a promotion to the students, started from the Medical student from 2017 batch until the clinical clerkship.

The registration started at 08.00 a.m, followed by a brief speech from the Project Officer, Muhammad Rafli Iqbal, the representative from LIA Ciputat, Mr. Sutoyo, and from the Local Coordinator of CIMSA UIN, Reyfal Khaidar. Then, we started do the test at 09.15 a.m. This test was followed by 18 people, far from our expectations because there was a schedule clashing between two organisations (TBM and CIMSA, the TBM had a practice in the mountain), the Language Centre only can do this event on the weekend, mostly the students from other faculties are having their holiday, and the last one the medical student who’s in their clinical practice were having the try out of UKMPPD so there was a few students cancelled their attendance for this project.

The test started with listening section, and then followed by reading section. It was overall two hours for doing the test. After the test finished, Mr. Sutoyo gave the tips and trick how to do the TOEFL test, started with why we need to study English language, the urgencies to study it, and then why we, medical students really need to improve our speaking in English, because the medical books mostly in English language, also MEA (Asian Economic Community) that will be starting in 2020 and the growing of globalisation we should prepare for it.
After the tips and trick explanation from the representative of LIA Ciputat, we give a certificate to Mr. Sutoyo as the guest for this event, and it was given by the project officer of this project, Muhammad Rafli Iqbal. Then after he asked for leave, the students that followed this event said thanks and it was really great and helpful to join this mini test simulation.
